About This Spot

Stepping into Point Dume Chinese Food feels like uncovering a quiet shortcut to home-cooked comfort in the midst of El Monte’s everyday rhythm. Nestled modestly in a low-key shopping plaza, this unpretentious spot carries the gentle hum of a familiar neighborhood favorite—where the pace is easy, and the focus is firmly on simple, honest food made fresh to order.

The space itself is humble and small, with just a few tables discreetly tucked in for those who choose to linger briefly. Yet more often, the mood here sways toward takeout: a warm exchange at the counter, attentive staff who know regulars by name, and generous portions that invite something a little more than a quick meal. It’s a place where the familiar sizzle of the kitchen meets the satisfying smells of garlic, ginger, and fresh shrimp—aromas that hint at the thoughtfully prepared flavors waiting on the other side of the counter.

What makes the experience here distinctive is the feeling that each dish carries its own story—a blend of tradition and everyday care. Whether it’s the tenderness of the shrimp coated in a light and crunchy walnut glaze, the nuanced spice balance of a Kung Pao chicken, or a bowl of noodles that feel both comforting and lively, the menu feels curated for moments that are low-key but meaningful. The portions speak to generosity and satisfaction, without fuss or pretense.

For those who appreciate a no-frills spot where the person behind the counter feels as warm as the meal itself, Point Dume offers a quiet station on your culinary map—welcoming, unassuming, and quietly consistent. It’s a spot where locals find comfort in flavorful dishes that avoid the glare of heat lamps or hurried assembly lines, and instead come from thoughtful craftsmanship and a community-oriented spirit.

Cash only and mostly takeout, Point Dume Chinese Food invites visitors to step inside for a brief moment of ease before returning home, or simply to bring a bit of those homey, thoughtfully prepared flavors along for wherever the day takes them.

It's a mom and pop shop in a quiet shopping plaza. The food was delicious, cooked to order, and the portions were very generous. Service was quick and the staff was very friendly. Definitely recommend, and will come here again!! Side note it is take out only at the moment.

All dishes were good- rich and flavorful, not too salty. It was also quick. They accept cash only.

Tasty food, decent prices for portions. Definitely try a few things to see if they suit your tastes, don't just choose 1 item. Very small area for indoor seating - almost as an after thought, this is a mostly take out kinda place. We have enjoyed the Beef Pad Thai, BBQ Pork Fried Rice, and Orange Chicken, so far. It is CASH ONLY at time of review, and has been for awhile as far as I know.

Excellent! Best spring rolls ever. Looking for something away from heat lamp Chinese takeout? Yes? Then lucky you! You've just found the right place. Food is cooked to order and prices are reasonable. They could add a little extra protein to the dishes and have better quality to-go soy sauce but aside from that it's one of the best kept secrets in the area.

We did take out sometimes on the way home after work. The food is very fresh and good taste. They didn’t raise the price for a long time. Very good place to go if you are lazy cooking.
